King's departure seems tardy
December, 4, 2007
OK, I get the move. But I'm baffled by the timing. That Philadelphia 76ers chairman Ed Snider would choose to fire general manager Billy King didn't exactly send shock waves throughout the league. King made several salary mistakes that resulted in Philadelphia essentially wasting some of the best years of Allen Iverson's career because it couldn't surround him with a decent supporting cast. What I have to question is, why now? What happened this week that they didn't know about six months ago? The Sixers made a decision to rebuild since the day they decided to trade Iverson, and everybody seemed on board with the process. If the Sixers had decided it was time for King to go, that was when to do it.
