Spurrier adds explosive athlete

December, 5, 2007
Under Armour All-American cornerback Charles Whitlock (Chester, S.C.) confirmed this week that he is officially a Gamecock commit, passing on Alabama, North Carolina and more than 30 other scholarship offers. The multi-talented athlete took most of his high school snaps at quarterback to take advantage of his rare athleticism and playmaking skills, but we project he will be employed at either wide receiver or cornerback at the next level.

Rated as the 35th overall prospect in the country by Scouts Inc., Whitlock is one of the most explosive athletes in this class with the foot quickness and change-of-direction skills needed to excel at the next level. Defensively as a zone player, Whitlock covers a lot of ground extremely quick with his elite acceleration and burst to the football. In man-to-man situations, he can stop-start on dime and mirror quicker receivers without separation. Overall ball skills as a defensive player are outstanding.
