Five reasons the Mets are different this year
September, 8, 2008
NEW YORK -- The reminders were everywhere, from the writings on the subway walls to the boos that carried across a Queens Sunday afternoon. Talk of 2007 -- seven games up, 17 games to play -- had come back out of the landfill, as Brett Myers shut off the Mets on Friday, as Jamie Moyer did the same Sunday afternoon, and as all that stood between the Phillies and first place Sunday night was Johan Santana. Meanwhile, Billy Wagner had walked off the mound 13 pitches into his simulated game at 5:45 Sunday evening. Then Santana beat Cole Hamels, Carlos Delgado crushed two monumental home runs, Luis Ayala finished up and the Phillies left town two games out in the NL East.
