Demoting Lyon won't matter much

September, 15, 2008
No worries, Diamondbacks fans! The D-backs might be 4½ games out of first place with only 14 to play, but at least their opponents won't have Brandon Lyon to kick around anymore. At least not in save situations

PHOENIX -- Chad Qualls has replaced struggling Brandon Lyon as the Arizona closer as the Diamondbacks try to stay in the NL West race over the final two weeks of the season.

The right-handed Qualls (4-8, 3.11 ERA) has been the best pitcher out of an otherwise shaky bullpen of late. He has not allowed a run in 17 of his past 18 appearances and has a 1.02 ERA since the All-Star break.
