A daily glance inside the numbers from the world of sports:

Chris Shelton hit his fifth home run of the season in Detroit's 5-2 win over Texas. Shelton is the fist player in American League history to hit five home runs in his team's first four games of the season. Two players did it in the National League: Barry Bonds for the Giants in 2002 and Lou Brock for the Cardinals in 1967.

Shelton also has 11 hits this season. The last major league player with 11 hits in his team's first four games of the season was Craig Biggio for the Astros in 2001. The last American League player to do it was Anaheim's Darin Erstad in 2000.
