Elias Says ...

A daily glance inside the numbers from the world of sports:

Dontrelle Willis allowed all three Cubs runs in the Marlins' 3-1 loss on Tuesday night -- as many as he allowed in his four previous starts at Wrigley Field combined. Only four other pitchers allowed as few as six runs in their first four starts at Wrigley during the expansion era: Kerry Wood (4), Randy Johnson (5), John Candelaria (6), and Mike Morgan (6).

Gustavo Chacin earned his fourth victory in four starts this season in the Blue Jays' 7-3 win over the Orioles. By allowing three earned runs in seven innings, Chacin actually lowered his ERA to 5.11. Only two other pitchers in the live-ball era won their first four starts in a season while compiling an ERA above 5.00 in those starts: Darren Oliver (5.24 in 2001) and Bob Wells (5.87 in 1996).
