Clemens thereby ties Grover Cleveland Alexander – who threw his last big-league pitch in 1930 – for third place on the all-time list for most games above .500. Only two pitchers who retired well before Alexander stand ahead of Clemens: Cy Young (511-315), 196 games above .500; and Christy Mathewson (373-188), 185 games above the break-even mark.
