A daily glance inside the numbers from the world of sports:

Major League Baseball
Ian Snell of the Pirates earned his first major-league victory Monday by defeating Roger Clemens, who has 340 career wins. Only one pitcher in major-league history earned his first win against a pitcher with more victories at that time than Clemens: On Sept. 8, 1905, Jimmy Dygert of the Philadelphia A's made his MLB debut in relief of Hall of Famer Rube Waddell, and Dygert beat Cy Young, whose record at the time was 420-232.

• Clemens' record fell to 12-8 with the loss. Unless he makes several starts on four days' rest or wins in relief, Clemens won't reach the 15-win mark this season. No pitcher in the live-ball era has made at least 30 starts and won fewer than 15 games with an ERA below 2.00. Actually, Clemens might not either; his ERA has risen to 1.89.
