Jimmy Rollins finished the 2005 season with a 36-game hitting streak -- the longest streak to end a season in major league history. Prior to Sunday, that distinction was held by Hal Morris, who hit safely in his last 29 games for Cincinnati in 1996. Morris' streak ended at 32 games after he was held hitless in his fourth game the following season.

Despite what you might have read elsewhere, about whether streaks "carry over" from one season to the next, here's the simple truth: For any streak, there are two records: (1) the longest streak within one season; and (2) the longest streak period -- spanning seasons, if applicable.
