• Last year's World Series featured the top-ranked offense (according to runs scored) in both the American and National leagues (Boston vs. St. Louis). This season, Chicago ranked ninth in runs scored among the 14 AL teams and Houston ranked 11th among 16 NL teams in that category.

This year's World Series (the 101st meeting of AL and NL champions) is the first in which both teams ranked in the lower half of their respective leagues in runs scored.
