Don't look at the batting line, look at the position
Gordon Beckham, 2B, CWS (Double-A Birmingham)
Monday's stats: 1-for-3, 1 R, 1 BB
The notable thing here is Beckham's sliding over to second base. The 2008 first-round pick was one of the stories of spring training, with one scout coming out and saying Beckham would have made the big league club if he had more than 14 games of professional experience under his belt. This move could accelerate the timetable for Beckham, whose early line is a healthy .366 average/.457 on-base/.610 slugging.
Next in line after Masterson?
Michael Bowden, RHP, BOS (Triple-A Pawtucket)
Monday's stats: 5 1/3 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 7 K
Top pitching prospect in the system has allowed one run in 14 innings in his first three starts while limiting International League hitters to a .189 batting average. Brad Penny has an ERA of 11.00. Put two and two together and it's going to be either Clay Buchholz or this guy getting the call pretty soon.
