Bouncing back from adversity
Clay Buchholz, RHP, Red Sox (Triple-A Pawtucket)
Monday's stats: 9 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 7 K
Buchholz's surprising struggles last season were attributed to mechanical problems as well as some issues with confidence, so Monday's start probably was the most important of the season for him, as he was coming off his worst outing of the year. He passed the test with flying colors, needing just 96 pitches to shut down Louisville. Boston needs to figure out a way to give him another chance.
More points in his favor: He's not married to a Spice Girl
Gordan Beckham, SS, White Sox (Double-A Birmingham)
Monday's stats: 3-for-5, 2B, HR (4), 5 RBI
The 2008 first-round pick hasn't received much attention for his daily performances, as he's been consistently good but not great. Now we finally have a dominant run, as in his past six games, Beckham has gone 12-for-26 with three doubles and two home runs, increasing his OPS nearly 100 points in the process with a season line of .307/.368/.514 (average/on-base/slugging).
