Here is a quick-hitting list of some players and story lines to watch as preseason play begins:
According to the Arizona Republic, Edgerrin James has continued to struggle in goal-line situations during training camp. Ken Whisenhunt has blamed the offensive line play so far, but Marcel Shipp has looked better in such scenarios. Whisenhunt hasn't ruled out James for goal-line chances yet, but Shipp is a definite threat to steal short-yardage carries again this season. James is not a solid pick to have a rebound season in 2007.
The Ravens have been showing a lot of three-receiver looks early on, with Derrick Mason working in the slot and Demetrius Williams lining up outside. Williams caught three passes for 39 yards in a scrimmage against the Redskins last weekend, and the Carroll County Times reported he was targeted several times by Steve McNair and Kyle Boller. Williams finished strong last season and he's a great sleeper pick who will emerge as a downfield threat and top complement for Mark Clayton.
