Week 9: Waiver Wire Work

Each week, we help you improve your fantasy outlook by recommending the best players to add and drop. Here are some players you should consider who are probably available on your league's free-agent list, and others you should cut loose if you need to make extra room on your roster.

Charlie Batch, QB, Steelers (owned in 6.7 percent of ESPN.com leagues): While Ben Roethlisberger was able to play this past Sunday, he didn't look very good, and the hook could come at any time, no matter what is said publicly. As Joe Theismann says, playing QB in today's NFL is all about managing games and not making critical errors. Roethlisberger is simply making too many questionable reads and key mistakes. The Steelers brain trust might decide at some point soon that it's a good idea to bench Roethlisberger for a brief period and go with Batch, who has played well when called upon. It's never a bad idea to stash a possible starting QB on your bench if you need help, and Batch could be starting soon. He has thrown five TD passes in limited action this season.
