Every week during the NFL season, Matthew Berry will be engaging in a discussion with an NFL expert on topics that will provide valuable insights for fantasy owners. For this pre-Week 14 edition, Berry and ESPN NFL analyst Tedy Bruschi weigh in on the Patriots' running back situation and what to make of volatile or unknown fantasy commodities heading into the playoffs, including Tre Mason, Colt McCoy, Mark Sanchez and others.

Editor's note: This article was published prior to the news Wednesday that the Browns are starting Brian Hoyer over Johnny Manziel this week versus the Colts. Matthew and Tedy's discussion of Manziel's potential fantasy value for this week -- had he been named the starter -- has been removed.

Which Patriots RB can you trust?

Matthew Berry: First of all, Tedy, thanks for joining me for this column. I have to say, it's so nice to have this discussion, champion to champion: You a champion of so many Super Bowls, me a champion of so many fantasy titles. I'm sure you see me as an equal.

Tedy Bruschi: [Laughs] Absolutely! It's good to talk to you, buddy, especially since I'm always bending your ear for fantasy advice to help me win in my leagues.

Berry: A lot of people don't know this about you, since they always associate you with your time as a linebacker for the Patriots, but you're a big fantasy football player.

Bruschi: That's right. I started up a father-son league now that my son is of the age at which he's really enjoying it, and I have another serious league that I'm in with my friends. Fantasy football lets me stay in touch with relatives all the way out in Arizona and California.

Berry: I love it. Now let's help some fantasy owners get a win. It's the playoffs this week in almost every league. As a former star for New England, nobody understands Bill Belichick and the Patriots Way better than you. What should fantasy owners do with the Patriots' running backs? Jonas Gray had 201 rushing yards and four touchdowns against Indianapolis three weeks ago, then had one carry for 4 yards the past two weeks combined. LeGarrette Blount was signed just two weeks ago, and he already has 136 yards and two touchdowns in those two games. Can you trust one of these guys, or possibly Shane Vereen, in fantasy this week?
