Future Power Rankings: Surprises

February, 17, 2012

What does it take to evaluate the situations of the major league baseball organizations and rank how strong they'll be in five years? A lot of work.

ESPN Insider Matt Meyers worked with Keith Law, Jim Bowden and Buster Olney to create ESPN Insider's MLB Future Power Rankings. Each organization was rated in five categories: Majors (Quality of their current big league roster), Minors (Quality and quantity of prospects in their farm system), Finances (How much money do they have available to spend?), Management (Value and stability of ownership, front office and coaching staff) and Mobility (Do they have a lot of young, cheap players? Or old, immovable guys?). The categories were weighed based on importance and the results offered an in-depth look at what each team has in store in the near future.
