Speed kills, and a lack of it can damage an NFL prospect's draft grade. Although most top prospects chose not to run the 40-yard dash at the NFL combine, those who did either helped or hurt their stock in my updated list of the top five prospects by position.
The most noteworthy changes came at wide receiver and at defensive back. At receiver, either solid workouts or 40 times helped Florida's Reche Caldwell, Florida State's Javon Walker and Auburn's Tim Carter, and poor efforts hurt Pittsburgh's Antonio Bryant and Florida's Jabar Gaffney.
