  • Some insiders believe that Bucs quarterback Brad Johnson may have a more serious back injury than previously reported because of how slow Johnson has recovered from what initially was reported to be a bruise of the lower back. Johnson has added fuel to the speculation by saying that he wouldn't tell people even if something were wrong.

  • Cowboys quarterback Quincy Carter, who was benched in favor of Chad Hutchinson in midseason, likely will be an ex-Cowboy this offseason. The team has been disappointed not only in his play but also with his attitude, routinely showing poor habits in practice.

  • We hear 49ers consultant Bill Walsh's pet project is the work he has been doing reconstructing the throwing motion of quarterback Cade McNown, who underwent season-ending surgery on his throwing shoulder last August. Walsh reportedly spends a few days a week working with McNown.
