Detroit Tigers: OK, what now? Hope that your mediocre players stop playing like terrible players and start playing like mediocre players so you can win a few games? Call Rickey Henderson and Chuck Finley? At 1-13, the Tigers are giving every indication that they have managed to field one of the worst teams of the expansion era. Certainly it is one of the most punchless. Tom Gage of the Detroit News writes that Alan Trammell is not about to ask the front office for help just yet.

Kansas City Royals: Things sure look bright for the Royals at this very moment in time. They are 11-3 and open a three-game home series against a team that is averaging fewer than two runs per game (Detroit) tonight. What is more, Carlos Beltran is finished with his rehab assignment in Wichita and will be in center field tonight, writes Bob Dutton of the Kansas City Star. His colleague, Dick Kaegel, writes that the club is expecting 30,000 for tonight's homecoming. That used to be a routine crowd for this once-great franchise, but now it will be seen as a pleasant surprise.
