When the Jacksonville Jaguars drafted Byron Leftwich with the seventh pick in the draft last weekend, questions about Mark Brunell's future with the team immediately surfaced. But the team formed a united front and said that Brunell was entrenched as the starter for this season.

"We think Mark is going to be a great mentor for the quarterbacks," owner Wayne Weaver told the Florida Times-Union. "The truth is there's not a quarterback controversy. Mark's our quarterback this year. Byron and [David] Garrard are going to compete for a backup spot."

Both coach Jack Del Rio and player personnel chief James Harris said the same thing, and wanted to snuff out any talk about the team releasing the 10-year veteran.
