Favre expects to play few more seasons

Green Bay has long been known as a city of inhospitable weather, but last season the talk of quarterback Brett Favre's possible retirement was more chilling to Packer fans than any winter wind. Favre never put a date on his retirement plans, only hinting that had the Packers won the Super Bowl last year retirement was a possibility. The retirement talk was exacerbated with news that Favre was selling his Wisconsin home while awaiting completion of a new home in his native Mississippi, where he spends his offseasons. Such an intimation caused quite a stir in Wisconsin. Favre is adored in Green Bay as few men in sports have been, and when he no longer dons the pads, there will be a gaping hole in Lambeau Field that rivals the one left by Vince Lombardi. Moreover, the Packers have no one on their roster that is close to being ready to take over at quarterback.
