Anaheim Angels: The Angels were set to give Chuck Finley a spot in their bullpen, but the free agent pitcher wants to start and told them "no thank you." Finley remains in shape, writes Bill Shaikin of the Los Angeles Times, and wanted very much to return to the Angels, but he apparently wants much more to be a starting pitcher.

Boston Red Sox: Fortunately, baseball players are paid for performance on the field, not on the ability to think rationally. Pedro Martinez checked his logic hat at the door in his reaction to the Sammy Sosa corked bat incident, but then, as David Heuschkel writes in the Hartford Courant, ill-considered reactions have been Pedro's strong suit for some time.
