American League
Kansas City Royals: While there are very few examples of hitters learning to be patient while in the midst of their major league careers, some do exist. Sammy Sosa is Exhibit A in this small gallery. Can Mike Sweeney become Exhibit B? Bob Dutton of the Kansas City Star reports that Sweeney is focusing his energies on becoming a more patient hitter and it is paying off.

New York Yankees: When you think you can control destiny and that it's your right to control destiny, the missteps of your most insignificant underlings must be especially galling. With that in mind, expect to see the tenures of Charles Gipson and Juan Acevedo ending very soon. Tyler Kepner of the New York Times reports they have incurred the wrath of owner George Steinbrenner of late and are not long for the pinstriped world. Gipson has been picked off twice at key junctures in games and Acevedo has one of those crazy ERAs that conjure images of slo-pitch softball.
