Batting Averages can be misleading


Just how badly is defending American League Most
Valuable Player Miguel Tejada struggling? Does his
poor batting average (.219) indicate that he is a
complete and utter breakdown of his skills or is he
just a player with a low batting average over the
course of 200 or 250 at bats?

My theory is this: if a player's secondary skills are
still evident, then the situation cannot be
classified as a crisis and, for the most part,
Tejada's secondary skills are fairly close to his
career averages.
