American League
Boston Red Sox: Team management is satisfied that Manny Ramirez had a legitimate excuse for starting his All-Star break a day early, reports Jeff Horrigan of the Boston Herald. Citing his mother's illness, Ramirez left the team in Detroit early Sunday. He also appears to be recovered from his hamstring pull as he started in leftfield last night for the first time in over a week. Jeremy Giambi and Casey Fossum were activated from the disabled list.

Minnesota Twins: It would appear the Twins have no interest in keeping Shannon Stewart beyond the end of the 2003 season, which makes their dispatching of Bobby Kielty to Toronto all the more puzzling (unless that player to be named later turns out to be somebody special). Jim Souhan of the Minneapolis Star Tribune speculates the free agent will not be re-signed and that Dustan Mohr, Michael Restovich and Michael Cuddyer will fight for the rightfield job in spring training next year ...The Twins most productive player remains shelved with a back injury, but the team is waiting to see how Corey Koskie is progressing before they put him on the disabled list reports the Star Tribune's Michael Rand.
