Detroit Red Wings: Now that Ken Holland knows that Sergei Fedorov won't be coming back, the Detroit GM can concentrate on re-signing another Red Wings center. The team and Steve Yzerman are getting closer to a new deal with a base salary of $6 million and including performance bonuses, according to The Detroit News.

New York Rangers: Alex Kovalev and the Rangers are close to reaching a deal on a one-year contract worth about $6.5 million plus bonuses for the restricted free agent winger, according to the New York Post. The bonuses are the key because Kovalev slumped after he was acquired from Pittsburgh last season, although he wasn't entirely at fault.

Toronto Maple Leafs: Is Toronto ready to re-enter the free agent sweepstakes? Not too many names are left, but the Post reports that Oleg Tverdovsky might soon become a Maple Leaf if the team can sever ties with defenseman Robert Svehla.
