  • It appeared to be a great birthday for Barry Bonds. He celebrated by gunning out a key runner and won the game with a walk-off home run. It's not as rosy as it seems, writes Gary Peterson of the Contra Costa Times. With his father Bobby in the hospital, Bonds was in no mood to celebrate.

  • Michael Lewis' much talked about book "Moneyball" continues to resonate. Larry Milson of the Toronto Globe and Mail debunks the notion that A's general manager Billy Beane not only did not write the book (as is sometimes believed) he was not especially keen on having it done at first. He also reveals that there was an entire humorous chapter about Blue Jays general manager J.P. Ricciardi but that it did not make the final cut.

  • Steve Dilbeck has written a call to arms type of column in today's Los Angeles Daily News. He admonishes the Dodgers that now is the time to make their move.
