  • Are the Cubs done for? Not so fast, writes Mike Kiley of the Chicago Sun-Times. He lists five reasons why now is not the time to lose faith in the Cubs' chances of overtaking the Cardinals and Astros.

  • Is Babe Ruth a relic of history as Kevin B. Blackstone writes in today's Dallas Morning News? Have the changes in the game since he left it (most notably, the breaking of the color line) made his accomplishments irrelevant?

  • It is interesting that a team would choose to unload its general manager just three days before the trading deadline but that is just what Cincinnati did yesterday, releasing GM Jim Bowden and manager Bob Boone. Here are some reactions from the press:
