Have you ever heard the old adage that it does your car good to take it out on the highway and let it fly? (I've heard it called "blowing out the carbons" which I always thought was simply an excuse to drive excessively fast.) Bartolo Colon did the pitching equivalent of that on July 22, writes Doug Padilla of the Chicago Sun-Times, and it apparently did the trick for him.

Against Cleveland that night he threw 111 pitches and 107 of them were fastballs. Since then, he has followed up that appearance with his three best outings of the year:

Game Score: date
82: Yesterday. Beat Kansas City 4-3.
80: July 27. Beat Tampa Bay 9-1.
80: June 7. Beat Los Angeles 4-1.
72: August 1. Beat Seattle 12-1.
72: June 22. Lost to Cubs 2-1.
