Carolina Hurricanes: This week during a prospect conditioning camp, Eric Staal is showing Carolina fans and club officials why he was drafted second overall. But the slim center looks like an 18-year-old and that is the biggest obstacle preventing Staal from making the Hurricanes once training camp starts. Buffalo Sabres: The Sabres are close to re-signing restricted free agent center Curtis Brown, according to The Buffalo News. That will leave the club with four unsigned players: center Chris Drury, wingers Miroslav Satan and Ales Kotalik and defenseman Jay McKee. Toronto Maple Leafs: Nikolai Antropov has been working on a weight training program that has added 10-15 pounds on his 6-5 frame. At about 234 pounds, the Toronto Maple Leafs center hopes to get his playing weight around 225-230 and avoid some of the injuries that have hampered his career.
