Cleveland Indians: There is no guarantee that struggling second baseman Brandon Phillips has a job in 2004, reports Paul Hoynes of the Cleveland Plain Dealer. Phillips was demoted at the All-Star break after a dismal major league debut that saw him underachieve in relation to expectations. Unfortunately, he has been struggling at Triple A Buffalo as well. In fact, he is playing even worse there than he did with the Indians. General manager Mark Shapiro told Hoynes: "I think Brandon is dealing with failure for the first time. I do think that Brandon, because of his athleticism and because of his self-confidence, has not struggled much in life. Now at a very young age, he's facing some adversity and challenges at a level he's never faced before. They are striking at the core of what's made him successful - his self-confidence."
