  • How much do the Tennessee Titans miss Neil O'Donnell? After Sunday, they miss him more than they thought they would when they cut him at the end of August to save some cap space. The Titans decided to go with Billy Volek, who had attempted only three passes in his NFL career, as Steve McNair's backup. It was a calculated risk that turned out to be a mistake yesterday.

The Titans trailed 17-7 to begin the third quarter and they needed something right to happen for them. Marvin Harrison obliged on the opening drive with a gaffe that could have changed momentum. Harrison caught a Peyton Manning 14-yard pass that should have been a first down, but he inexplicably moved toward the sidelines and in the process lost five yards.

Instead of a first down the Colts punted three plays later and the Titans had the ball on their own 10-yard line. Volek entered the game because McNair had dislocated the ring finger on his passing hand, and he promptly responded by being sacked for a seven-yards loss. The drive stalled and the Titans were forced to punt.
