Jacksonville Jaguars: It was a bad day for backups in Jacksonville Tuesday. CB Brad Franklin was waived, perhaps to make room for CB Alex Molden, who was just released by the Lions. When asked if the Jags had interest in the eight-year vet, VP of player personnel James Harris did not deny the team had its eye on him. Backup LB Eric Westmoreland will probably have to have surgery to repair ligament damage in his knee. Coach Jack Del Rio told the Florida Times-Union the surgery likely would cause Westmoreland to be put on injured reserve, ending his season. Washington Redskins: LG Dave Fiore is expected to start Sunday's game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers according to the coach Steve Spurrier and Fiore. Spurrier said Tuesday that Fiore will replace rookie Derrick Dockery if he's healthy, and Fiore said his sore right knee has healed sufficiently for him to practice today. "I'll be practicing," Fiore told the Washington Post. "Without question, the time off helped me. Staying off it definitely helped calm it down." Fiore started the first three games but has been on the inactive list for the past two games because of discomfort in his surgically repaired knee. He underwent an MRI exam last week and said that no new structural damage was found. Also, the club will not start C Lennie Friedman, Spurrier said, indicating that the Redskins will stick with starter Larry Moore. Pittsburgh Steelers: Despite being outscored 129-97 overall and losing each of its three games by an average of 19 points, coach Bill Cowher said he has no personnel or schematic changes planned for his team "at this time." Asked if that could occur later in the week, Cowher told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, "This time is this time today. Anything can change. Sometimes, injury creates that as a possibility, as well." There will be one change, but that's due to injury. LT Marvel Smith won't play in Denver Sunday because of a pinched nerve in his shoulder that has caused him to miss the past two games except for three plays Sunday. OL Oliver Ross will replace him. Cowher and some of his players acknowledged that the play of the line, quarterback and the running backs need to improve if the Steelers want to improve their level of play..
