Shipp could supplant Smith as starter

If Marcel Shipp comes in and injects new life into the Cards offense, Emmit Smith might find himself on the bench.

Emmitt Smith suffered a fractured scapula in his dreadful return to Dallas, and could be out as many as six weeks. Given his historical recuperative powers, it wouldn't be a shock to see him be ready to play much sooner than anyone in the medical profession anticipates, but will his job be ready when he returns?

Coach Dave McGinnis says yes, but that's an easy thing to say now. The Cardinals brought Smith in to give them some veteran leadership, and while he as succeeded in accomplishing that, he has yet to give the team any production on the field.

Smith has been a virtual non-entity in three of team's losses this year, and the Cards will have trouble winning another game if they continue to get nothing from the running game.
