To the victors goes all the spoiling. Sara Olkon of
the Miami Herald describes some of the post-Series
celebrations enjoyed by the Marlins reminding us all
why we spent at least part of our youth wanting to be
big league ballplayers.
Mike Phillips of the Herald wants to remind everyone
that it was former general manager Dave Dombrowski who
put together the core of the team that just won the
World Championship. Dombrowski stuck it out with the
franchise after it was gutted at the owner's whim in
1998 and sowed the seeds for the 2003 team.
While the Yankees began their post-Series purge by
firing hitting coach Rick Down, the Marlins are
promising not to disassemble this World Champion squad
like they did the last one. Owner Jeff Loria swore on
a stack of bibles (well, not actually) before a
victory celebration crowd yesterday that there would
be no repeat of the 1998 fiasco perpetrated by
then-owner Wayne Huizinga.
