American League

Baltimore Orioles: Does anybody want to be the first one into the free agent pool this year? The Orioles certainly don't reports Joe Christensen of the Baltimore Sun. For one thing, they would love to pursue Vladimir Guerrero but are not interested in paying him the $15 million a year he is likely to ask for. Instead, they'd rather target two quality players and split that kind of money between them. Christensen also reports the O's met with the Brewers yesterday but would not confirm if Richie Sexson's name was part of the discussions.

Boston Red Sox: It's Angels' coach Joe Maddon's turn to interview for the Sox managerial vacancy today. Michael Silverman of the Herald writes that a fourth name could be added to the list that includes already-interviewed candidates Terry Francona and Glenn Hoffmann. Rangers bench coach DeMarlo Hale might get a shot at in interview. He has managed in the Red Sox system. He was Eastern League Manager of the Year with the Trenton Thunder in 1999.
