  • What is the real motivation behind taking steroids? What drives men (and women) to take the risks? Joe Posnanski shows up in the Kansas City Star today with one of the best columns I've read all year and the topic happens to be steroids. He talks to an athlete who gave them a shot and gets for his readers a truly insightful take on why they remain the temptation they are in spite of their inherent problems.

  • What's it going to take to get athletes off the sauce? Shaun Powell of Newsday says it's going to take a lot more than warnings and dire predictions.

  • When will baseball get serious about combating steroids and, moreover, does it really want to? Gene Frenette says it's time to stop pussy-footing around and make a policy that will really put the problem on the ropes.
