  • Get rid of him! So yells Bill Plaschke in today's Los Angeles Times regarding oft-injured starter Kevin Brown. With rumors of a Brown for Jeff Weaver deal swirling, Plaschke believes Brown's monster-sized contract and advancing age make the deal a no-brainer for the Dodgers -- especially if the Yankees were to throw in Nick Johnson.

  • Of course, the Brown rumor is just that -- a rumor -- and Ray Ratto of the San Francisco Chronicle dismisses it out of hand. He also writes that the Giants have already got the division trumped for 2004.

  • The Marlins finally got around to offering a deal to postseason hero Ivan Rodriguez yesterday. This is a key step, writes Greg Stoda of the Palm Beach Post. Understanding that they couldn't keep all four among Luis Castillo, Mike Lowell, Derrek Lee and Rodriguez, he condones the trade of Lee but only if they can somehow re-sign Pudge to go along with Lowell and Castillo, who agreed to terms this week.
