After a case of the flu knocked No. 1 goalie Patrick Lalime out of action earlier this week, maybe all the Ottawa Senators needed to snap out of their funk was a dose of Martin Prusek.
The Senators backup stopped 30 shots in a 4-0 victory over Florida on Wednesday night for his first career shutout to follow up a stellar 31-save performance Monday night in a 4-1 victory over NHL-leading Philadelphia.
Prusek's two performances were about as surprising as the Senators' poor start this season after many had predicted they would be leading contenders for the Stanley Cup. In his previous start before Monday, the 27-year-old Czech had allowed three goals on six shots before being yanked in a 6-3 victory Lalime pulled out over Atlanta on Nov. 25.
