American League
Boston Red Sox: The thing that wouldn't die does not have as much life in it as rumor would lead us to believe. According to a report in the New York Post, both the Red Sox and Rangers are in deep denial that the Alex Rodriguez-for-Manny Ramirez talks are back on again.

Kansas City Royals: Rather than go to arbitration -- where he lost prior to the 2003 season -- Carlos Beltran and the Royals agreed to a $9 million contract yesterday. General manager Allard Baird told Dick Kaegel of the Kansas City Start that it his intention to keep Beltran all year, rather than making him the subject of trade talks as happened last season. As for any hope of a multi-year deal, Beltran told Kaegel: "We don't want to ask for something I don't deserve. We're just going to try to compare me to players who have the same numbers that I have and try to get something around that."
