American League
Detroit Tigers: According to the early returns, the signing of Pudge Rodriguez is giving the box office a nice boost. The Detroit Free Press is reporting that the Tigers set a single day record for ticket sales on Monday, the day he was signed, and broke the record the very next day.

New York Yankees: Fact: the Yankees need a third baseman. Fact: the Cardinals are having trouble coming to terms with Albert Pujols, a third baseman-turned outfielder. Not a fact: the Yankees contacted St. Louis about a trade for Pujols. The New York Post is reporting that there is no truth to the rumor that the two teams talked trade. For a rumor though, it has some detail to it. Allegedly, the Yankees were willing to send second baseman Alfonso Soriano and top catching prospect Dioner Navarro in exchange for Pujols, a player who has started his career so well that it might be the Yankees are the only team that could afford a player of his stature.
