In a season that's seen him take more shots to the face than some boxers do in a year, Flyers center Jeremy Roenick is shunning hockey's traditional warrior mentality after the latest blow to his head prompted him to consider retirement.

A concussion and broken jaw caused by a shot off the stick of New York Rangers defenseman Boris Mironov didn't stop Roenick from his second favorite pastime, however, talking over the weekend. As much as he'd like to come back soon after having a plate inserted to protect his surgically repaired jaw, Roenick is smartly taking a more cautious approach to his latest injury.

"I'm mulling over a lot of things right now and I'm not ruling out retirement," Roenick told The Philadelphia Inquirer on Saturday. "We've talked about it in the last 24 hours. I have a lot to weigh. This is nine concussions, and that does something to you."
