Calgary Flames: Calgary has lost two of its most physical defensemen, Denis Gauthier and Rhett Warrener, for significant stretches of the playoffs yet here it is leading the Red Wings 2-1 in the second round. With little fanfare, burly 24-year-old Robyn Regehr has been a dominant force in the Flames' zone and an emerging physical force among NHL blue-liners.

Detroit Red Wings: Since 1997, no hockey fans have lived such charmed lives as Red Wings fans. With three Stanley cups, a loaded roster and deep pocketed owner Mike Illitch, Red Wings fans have been blessed with riches and victories. Yet their beloved Wings are again making things difficult and nerve-wracking by trailing the sixth-seeded Calgary Flames while other high seeds coast along with few worries.

Colorado Avalanche: All the signs are there, even though nobody has said so officially. This will be Peter Forsberg's final season, for a year anyway, in Colorado before he returns to Sweden. Joe Sakic's overtime goal in the Avalanche's 1-0 victory over San Jose postponed Forsberg's final game at least a few days as the Avs cut the Sharks' series lead to 3-1 Wednesday night.
