American League
Chicago White Sox: The Sox have the best record in one-run games in the league, going 10-1 in those situations. This is probably not doing wonders for the constitution of new manager Ozzie Guillen, who doubts his team can maintain that frenetic close-game pace. "I don't think we can go through a whole year with those kinds of wins, because we're not that good," Guillen told Bob Foltman of the Chicago Tribune. "I think with the offense we have, we will get better."

Detroit Tigers: The Tigers lack of quality pitching is really starting to tell on their won-loss record, which fell below .500 with last night's 11-4 loss to the Angels. Will they look to address this problem in the 2004-05 offseason much as they did the offensive situation last winter? John Lowe of the Detroit Free Press speculates they may dip into the free agent market in order to come up with some rotation anchors. He points out that Derek Lowe could be on the prowl looking for a contract. Let's not forget that his teammate, Pedro Martinez, is also making noise about testing the air.
