San Jose Sharks: Darryl Sutter couldn't motivate Alexander Korolyuk very much when he coached the small left winger with San Jose. But playing against his former coach inspired Korolyuk to play big in Game 1 of the Western Conference finals. Korolyuk also got the tying goal that forced overtime, but the Sharks still lost 4-3 to the Sutter's Flames.

Calgary Flames: Calgary penalty killing expert Stephane Yelle turned 30 Sunday and got a face full of shaving cream from his teammates after leading the Flames to victory with some well-timed blocked shots in Game 1 against the Sharks. "Yeller would block a shot off his face if it meant he'd stop a goal," Flames forward Chris Simon told the Calgary Sun about Yelle. "He'll do anything."

Tampa Bay Lightning: Tampa Bay won Game 1 of the Eastern Conference finals despite not playing at its best. Philadelphia believes this is a good sign, "if we continue to do that, hopefully we can force it again," as Flyers head coach Ken Hitchcock told the Tampa Tribune. But by the same token, the Flyers haven't seen the Lightning at their best yet.
