Friars get their man in Ed Cooley

March, 24, 2011
Providence College introduced one of the city's own on Wednesday as Ed Cooley was named the 15th head coach in the school's history.

The former Fairfield coach grew up just a few miles away from the Dunkin Donuts Center and knows firsthand how tough the streets of Providence can be, having overcome a poverty-stricken upbringing as one of nine children to go on to be a two-time Rhode Island state player of the year at nearby Central High School.

He called Providence his dream job on Wednesday, recalling a childhood spent rooting for the Friars, Rick Pittino and Billy Donovan.
