Rutgers coach Mike Rice scored an important 11th hour commitment on Friday by landing Elijah Carter (Paterson, N.J./Brewster Academy). After signing seven players during November's early signing period, Rice wasn't expecting to need any more help in the Class of 2011 but found himself in desperate need of a guard when Tyree Graham went down with an Achilles injury and it started to become clear that signee Michael Taylor (Brooklyn, N.Y./Boys & Girls) wouldn't be able to get through the NCAA clearinghouse. Consequently, it wasn't until recently that Rice made a last-minute effort to get back involved in Carter's recruitment, who he had expressed interest in during the summer but not pursued seriously since.
