Julian Royal in for the long haul

October, 15, 2010
Georgia Tech has attracted some highly touted players in coach Paul Hewitt's tenure, however, that achievement has been somewhat of a mixed blessing as many of the elite players have had a tremendous impact, but only stayed for a season. Georgia Tech fans would barely get to know the young prodigy and then he would be gone. Sustaining an elite program is difficult when dealing with turnover from players declaring early for the NBA Draft.

Julian Royal's (Alpharetta, Ga./ Milton) decision to attend Georgia Tech is big news for the Yellow Jackets because he is a versatile post player who can impact the program, but more importantly should also stick around for a few years.

The No. 58-ranked player in the country is one of the top combo-forwards in the 2011 class. Royal has the ability to score inside with his back to the basket or play on the perimeter as a face-up four man. He should fit in very well with Georgia Tech's up-tempo philosophy.
