While Cam Newton was leading Auburn to an SEC Championship at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta, just up the road in Marietta some die hard basketball fans were getting an opportunity to catch some of the best high school basketball players in Georgia as defending state champions Milton (5A) and Miller Grove (4A), who are both loaded with Division I players and are favorites to contend for another state championship in their classifications, fought it out in the first Nike Explosion. In today's perimeter-dominated game usually it is guard play that wins out, but in a showdown of two of the best teams in the State of Georgia it was the interior players that made the difference in the outcome as Miller Grove dominated Milton 71-61. Although Milton's senior backcourt of Shannon Scott (Ohio St) and Dai-Jon Parker (Vanderbilt) form one of the best guard tandems in the country, it was Miller Grove's frontcourt trio of junior's Tony Parker and Brandon Morris along with senior Henry Brooks that separated the two teams. Tony Parker was the biggest factor, scoring 20 points, controlling the paint defensively and being a force on the boards with 12 rebounds. Brooks and Morris made it difficult for Milton's players to score anywhere around the basket thanks to their athleticism and length.
