ELON, N.C. -- Marcus Sheffield II scored24 points as Elon edged Drexel 75-70 on Saturday.
The largest lead of the game was eight points and there were 10 ties and nine lead changes. Drexel led 37-31 at the half but a three-point play and 3-pointer by Wood to open the second half quickly tied the game.
The Phoenix lead of five points inside the last two minutes was the biggest from that point. Sheffield II hit a 3-pointer at the 7:07 mark put Elon on top 59-57 at the Phoenix never tailed again. Butler's dunk with four minutes to go pulled Drexel into a tie at 61.
Kris Wooten of Elon and Okros matched 3-pointers inside of two minutes to keep it a two-point game and after the Okros 3 the Phoenix went 6 of 7 from the line to hold on.
Drexel defeated Elon 63-41 on Jan. 16. Elon faces James Madison on the road on Thursday. Drexel matches up against Hofstra at home on Thursday.
